Vietnamese Remembrance Day . WHEREAS, following the conclusion of the Vietnam War on April 30, 1975, many Vietnamese refugees resettled in communities across the United States, including Oregon, seeking safety, opportunity, and a new beginning; and . WHEREAS, Vietnamese Americans have become valued members of our community and have contributed significantly to the civic, cultural, economic, educational, and military life of our region; and . WHEREAS, many Vietnamese Americans have come to regard Oregon and the United States as their second home while continuing to honor their cultural heritage and history; and . WHEREAS, April 30 is observed by many Vietnamese Americans as a day of remembrance to honor the sacrifices made by American and South Vietnamese service members, as well as the many lives affected by the Vietnam War. .
